When a client's AI answer is a blank box.

AI questions are on professional indemnity proposal forms this renewal cycle. Underwriters are asking how AI is applied across a practice, what governance sits around it, and whether staff are trained — and the market's responses now range from affirmative AI cover with conditions, to exclusions where use looks uncontrolled.

UtterConnection produces the evidence side of that answer for small SRA and CLC-regulated conveyancing firms (typically 6–10 fee-earners, Microsoft 365). We are not insurance advisers and we never touch placement — the governance evidence is the whole job.

What underwriters ask — and the evidence behind each answer

How is AI applied?

A named AI System Register — every tool, its purpose, its owner, its human-in-the-loop status — grounded in a 30-day forensic audit of the firm's own network logs, not a self-report. The firm's answer lists what actually runs, including what arrived silently through CMS updates.

What governance sits around it?

Controls that operate whether or not anyone remembers the policy: Microsoft Purview data-loss prevention tuned for conveyancing data, a supervision ledger recording a named human sign-off on every AI-assisted output, and a written record of what the firm allowed, refused, and why.

Are staff trained?

Dated, named, and filed — a per-session competence-evidence log mapped to SRA continuing competence and the CLC's Ongoing Competence Code, maintained automatically. Not "staff have been briefed": a record the COLP can produce on request.

A crosswalk your underwriter reads in two minutes

Every engagement produces a broker evidence pack: a one-page grid mapping the firm's controls to standard proposal-form categories, with a named evidence reference for each answer — plus verification metrics from the firm's own supervision log, the firm's standalone cyber-cover status, and a reasonable-search log supporting fair presentation under the Insurance Act 2015. If an affirmative AI endorsement is available to the firm, the pack is built to answer its documented-governance condition directly.

What we will not do: we never promise a client a premium saving — no data exists to support one, and any adviser quoting a percentage is inventing it. We don't advise on cover, we don't recommend insurers, and we don't touch placement. The claim we stand behind is narrower: your client will be asked, and their answer will be documented, auditable, and true.

If a client answers the AI section with a blank or a one-liner

An introduction is all it takes. The fit: SRA or CLC-regulated conveyancing firms, typically 6–10 fee-earners, running Microsoft 365. We start with a free diagnostic or a fixed-fee audit, and every engagement ends with the evidence pack above in the firm's own hands — their infrastructure, their tenant, theirs to keep.
